Ecological intervention to improve the sanitary state of the vineyards and its effect on the quality of the grapes and their wines. (ITC-20151026)

The general objective of the INNTER-ECOSANVID project is “to promote a new ecological strategy that improves the health status of the vineyards –with special attention to wood diseases–, based on the construction of different application prototypes of a novel active material evaluating its impact on the quality of the grapes and their wines ”.

Since the beginning of the project, on July 2, 2015, the business consortium has carried out various tests in the field using OZONE as an active ingredient to improve the health status of the vines.

The INNTER-ECOSANVID project is a pioneer in evaluating the use of ozone both on improving the sanitary state of vineyards, as well as on the quality of grapes and their wines.

To carry out this research, different and innovative prototypes designed and manufactured for this purpose by NUTRICONTROL have been used. The entity’s commitment to R + D + i and its determination to offer solutions to current problems have been materialized through the equipment designed and manufactured throughout this project.

The second-degree cooperatives, DCOOP-BACO and VIALCON, for their part, represent several thousand members concerned about the health of their vineyards who constantly demand a solution to this problem, more insistently in regard to diseases of wood.

While FINCA ANTIGUA has demonstrated over the years its commitment to the search for alternatives that improve the quality of wine, participating in various R & D & I projects, which despite having particular objectives, always had that common link.

The INNTER-ECOSANVID project also has the scientific-technical support of the research groups of the Department of Agricultural Chemistry of the E.T.S.I. Agrónomos y Montes de Albacete (University of Castilla-La Mancha, UCLM) and the Provincial Agronomic Technical Institute of the Albacete Provincial Council (ITAP), specifically from the SEDAF Area (Diagnosis and Phytosanitary Assistance Service). Other entities that the business consortium has to carry out the project is BetterRID (Better Research, Innovation and Development, S.L., a spin-off of the UCLM) and the consulting firm ARTICA Ingeniería e Innovación.

Challenges of the Society: Food safety and quality; productive and sustainable agricultural activity, natural resources, marine research and agriculture.

Goals:

The objective of the PreciRiego project is to design and develop an Expert Irrigation System for the application of precision irrigation on the plot.

Currently the cultivation plots are treated as a fixed management unit where the application of irrigation is carried out in a homogeneous way (in terms of irrigation times and agronomic designs) without taking into account the spatial variability of the factors involved in crop management. . This general irrigation scheduling can lead to significant inefficiency in the use of water resources, as there is wide variability within the plots, mainly due to the heterogeneity of the soil, the hydraulic conditions, the micro-climate, and even the variability itself. plant genetics, which leads to excesses and defects in the dose of water in different parts of the plot.

Based on this premise and in order to provide innovative technological solutions to both water management bodies and irrigators, the PreciRiego consortium proposes the following strategic project, the purpose of which is the design and development of new irrigation systems and technologies that quantify and are adapted to the existing variability in the plots. In this way, it will be possible to advance in the application, in a precise and zoned way, of the amount of water demanded by a crop based on its specific water needs, the availability of resources, the required production and the quality of the final product.

The evaluation commission of the Call Challenges-Collaboration, has decided to propose the granting of aid to the project entitled Development of high-performance IoT infrastructures against climate change based on artificial intelligence (GLOBALoT).

This project is financed by: FEDER / Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities – State Research Agency / _Project RTC2019-007159-5., Within the Call Challenges, and co-financed by the European Union for technological development, innovation and a quality research. The beneficiary entities of said aid that will carry out the project are:

Project end date: 2023

Code: RTC2019-007159-5

Challenges of the Society: Food safety and quality; productive and sustainable agricultural activity, natural resources, marine research and agriculture.

Goals:

The objective of this project is to develop a cross-cutting technology, based on a hardware and software infrastructure, oriented to the fight against climate change. This technology will allow efficient analysis of large amounts of data and images in IoT environments. To achieve this efficient analysis, artificial intelligence algorithms will be used combined with mechanisms that will provide IoT environments with high-performance computing capabilities typical of large data centers. The technology developed in this project will focus, during its execution, on two different areas:

  1. The optimization of production systems for intensive agriculture in greenhouses, with the aim of making sustainable use of natural resources.
  2. The detection of problems related to the prevention and resolution of catastrophes derived from climate change, through the use of a swarm of drones.

GREENAIot aims to develop a competitive improvement of fertigation and climate control processes in a typical greenhouse in the Spanish Mediterranean area, optimising its production and minimising its environmental impact on its surroundings.

To this end, AIoT (Artificial Intelligence + Internet of Things) techniques will be investigated and applied to the greenhouse control and automation system, replacing the classic control logic based on user experience currently used in this type of system with new intelligent control methods.

Therefore, the fertigation and greenhouse climate control systems developed by Nutricontrol will be improved by including efficient communication technologies that allow high availability of the services developed. In addition, a completely new module will be designed and tested for the company based on artificial intelligence techniques that, from the data generated by our IoT infrastructures, can autonomously offer the user automatic decisions for climate control and fertigation of the greenhouse, as well as making climate predictions of the environment and the future water needs of the crop. This module will be evaluated by integrating in into the infrastructure developed by Nutricontrol. Human-machine integration techniques will also be investigated and developed for the correct interpretation of our product by customers at the level of visualisation, alerts and predictions and monitoring.

The objectives of the project are as follows:

  • Optimisation of natural resources to reduce the environmental impact of intensive greenhouse agriculture.
  • Optimisation of the IoT infrastructure for data acquisition for real-time climate control in greenhouses.
  • Design of predictive models of climatic variables and water needs using artificial intelligence techniques for energy optimisation in greenhouses.
  • Integration of predictive models in greenhouse monitoring and control systems.
  • Optimisation of the combination of climatic variables and water needs with configurable greenhouse parameters to improve energy efficiency.

The project will be developed in our facilities at Nutricontrol S.L., during the period from July 2020 to June 2022.

Financed by the Spanish state, FEDER funds and CDTI, with a budget of 493,158€ and CDTI and FEDER co-financing of 325,040.44€.

Finally, this project will have the collaboration of the Computer Networks Group of the DISCA Department of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), for the definition of machine learning models that allow predictive analysis for the optimisation of climate control and fertigation from the data obtained by the company’s IoT infrastructures.
